Non-toxic, inert insulating and quenching, of high dielectric strength and thermal stability: These outstanding properties make SF6 gas ideal for use as an insulating gas in enclosed medium- and high-voltage switchgear. It is also used as an extinguishing gas for interrupting switching arcs.
Because of its above-average global warming potential, SF6 gas (according to the Kyoto Protocol) is one of the six gases subject to monitoring. In accordance with these requirements, it may only be used in closed circuits.
